Tribute to Ms. Nuon Phaly

      My mother, Mrs. Nuon Phaly, was the founder of the Future Light Organization of World Mate (FLOW) and led the organization until her unfortunate death in 2012. As her son, I am honored and humbled by the responsibility of continuing the great work that she began. We are so proud that the FLOW has this year been assessed by the Ministry of Social  Affairs Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MOSVY) as the third best orphanage in Cambodia. We know this honor reflects the hard work  that  Mother  Phaly  put  into  FLOW  before  her  passing.

Nuon So Thero

       As a child who experienced a terrible life during the Pol Pot regime and civil war, I witnessed the suffering and trauma of the Cambodian people - in particular what my mother Phaly went through. I followed her to the Thai border where she established the Khmer People Relief Center. There, she raised and fed the children of depressed women and I was raised with them. As a young boy, I watched my mother nurture those destitute children. Mother Phaly never cried in front of her kids no matter how much she suffered. She wanted to show her children how strong she was as a woman. She always told me to be strong and work hard to overcome the problems that I would face. She told me to never give up and never be hopeless. As her son and her chosen successor, it is my duty and my responsibility to continue her mission and to dedicate my energy and effort to lead FLOW to be a place that provides hope, care, and love for those needy children. I pledge to continue to provide the best care and love to all children of FLOW.

       Mother Phaly dedicated her life to take care of those who were unfortunate. She started building a brighter future for each child, and over the years she has helped so many children. She was proud to see her children everywhere. She was a great mother.  She was not only my mother, but the mother of all children. I am so proud to be her son. She was a wonderful mother. The year 2013 has started without Mother Phaly being physically around. But her spirit and her inspiration continues to flourish even stronger in our hearts. We will work hard to build the light of the future for our kids in the home that Mother Phaly created.

      Today we have 172 children studying computers, 237 children studying English, 62 children studying Khmer traditional dance. There are 32 students studying Karate, and three of them received bronze medals in tournaments last year. Our children have also had the opportunity to visit and dance in Japan. There are also 48 students in the Advance Education programs in which 21 of them have been employed. FLOW is proud see that 55 children have now left FLOW with college degrees and jobs.

 I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude thank to Dr. Haruhisa Handa, a longtime supporter of FLOW since 1996, for his devotion to mankind, for his tireless care and concerns for the welfare of our children, and for his passion and love for the children of FLOW. The loves and passion that he has given to our children are without borders.

       My sincere thanks to all members of World Mate who always support our Future Light Organization of World Mate. We are honored and blessed by this strong relationship.
